It's hard to believe that we are already a month into 2012 and spring is upon us (Punxutawney Phil and his shadow notwithstanding).  This is as good a time as any to consider those life, property and work related changes that may have taken place in the last year  - some might make parts of your current insurance protection obsolete.  And it isn't only changes in your work and life that have a bearing on your insurance coverage.  Sometimes, as we point out in our post on Insurance in the Technology Age, the world around us requires us to reconsider our insurance program.

It's also important to understand that insurance is nothing more than a vehicle for managing risk.  It works by transferring the costs of loss, whether that be theft of your cell phone or a broken windshield.  The transfer of risk through insurance comes at a cost, of course, and that cost is your insurance premium.  Safety measures that help us avoid loss in the first place can not only reduce the cost of insurance, they help us avoid the hassle that almost invariably accompanies property damage and injury.  That's why, from time-to-time, including this month, we deliver safety and health tips for home, car, work, hobbies and leisure pursuits.
